Celebrating 110 years of «Living our Values»
On the 29th of June we celebrated
110 years of business. We choose to mark
this momentous occasion by giving back
to society and it gives me enormous
pleasure to announce that we will be
making a commitment of R1, 5million to
the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital,
a paediatric academic and tertiary
referral hospital being built in
Johannesburg this year. As a company
we remain committed to the
communities in which we work and we
see this donation as a demonstration of
living our values rather than merely
talking about them.
Why our commitment to the Mandela
Hospital?
Nelson Mandela is an icon known for
living true values and we’ve always taken
inspiration from him. We have a history
of collaborating on signature Mandela
projects such as the Nelson Mandela
Foundation’s school building programme
in the late 1990’s. We built the Mandela
Barloworld Agricultural High School, a
gift to the communities of the Rain
Queen in Modjadji, Limpopo Province.
Today we will once again partner with
the Mandela Trust by making a
commitment of R1.5 million to the
Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital
being built adjacent to the University of
the Witwatersrand Medical School in
Parktown, Johannesburg. Like education,
health care is a key concern in our
country and this donation will contribute
to a state-of-the-art specialist paediatric
academic and tertiary referral hospital
which will provide child-centred, best-
quality medical services to the children of
southern Africa, irrespective of their
social and economic status. This is a true
reflection of how we live our value of
commitment to society.

A letter from Clive Thomson — Chief Executive: Barloworld
Executive appointments in Vostochnaya Technica
Tony Diggeden, General Director of
Vostochnaya Technica (VT), has
decided to return to South Africa
following 13 years of dedicated
leadership building our Russian Cat®
dealership into a successful and prof
table business. Tony, who has 36 years
of service with the group, will take up
a position as General Manager of
Barloworld Equipment South Africa’s
Cape region, based in Cape Town.
Tony has made an enormous personal
contribution to the success of the VT
business. On behalf of the Barloworld
Group, I would like to thank Tony for
his focus, commitment and extremely
hard work in building this business into
something we can all be proud of
today.
The timing of Tony’s move will be
finalised within the next few months.
He will not be completely lost to VT and
will be available to assist with ad hoc
projects.
Quinton McGeer will succeed Tony as
General Director of VT. Quinton is well
prepared for this role, having been with
VT for nine years — initially as Financial
Director and then as Deputy General
Director responsible for the Siberian
territory and head office.
As a result of the above and various
growth initiatives within VT, the
executive team’s responsibilities will be
restructured eff ective 1 October
2012 as follows:
Irina Sukhoveeva will be promoted to
Executive Director of West Central,
Krasnoyarsk and Kuzbass. She will
retain responsibility for Metso and the
oil and gas segment across all
territories.
Anton Gulichev will be promoted to
Executive Director of Eastern Siberia,
Yakutia and Russian Far East (RFE) and
retains responsibility for the forestry
segment across all territories.
Mining
Mining remains a major focus for VT
moving forward, with the impending
acquisition of the Bucyrus distribution
business.
To support this, the following new
mining structure will be implemented in
the next few months:
• John Bergin, previously Area Mining
Manager for Indonesia at Cat Global
Mining, has been appointed by VT as
Mining Director, Cat legacy products.
• Peter Tapson, currently Regional
Director for Yakutia and RFE, has been
appointed as Mining Director, Bucyrus
legacy products.
Please join me in congratulating
Quinton and the other executives on
their new roles and wishing them
success in the future.
